A Father’s Day Note from Melissa
Father’s Day reminds me just how many shapes fatherhood can take.
These days, I’m lucky to share life with Tim— watching him with our kids,
grandkids, and even the animals reminds me that being a good man shows up in
the small, steady ways. His patience, generosity and love have no bounds. It is
especially apparent when we are going through a difficult time with one or more
of our kids. He is such an inspiration to me.
And of course, I have to mention Michael Landon. He wasn’t my dad, but he was
my Pa, and he sure helped raise me. His deep appreciation for everyone we
worked with, cast and crew alike, made each one of us feel special and respected.
His love for his children was palpable. The lessons he taught me live within me
today.

Then, there is my father, Paul Gilbert, who is in my heart, soul and everything I do,
every single day. I’ve had some wonderful stepfathers and the best Godfather a
girl could ask for in Charlie Brill.
So, you see, not all fathers look the same. Some show up in unexpected ways.
Some raise us. Some inspire us from afar. Some, we miss a little extra on days like
this.
Whether you're celebrating a father, grandfather, godfather, mentor, or friend—
we'd love for you to share about the beloved father figures in your life in the
comments below.
We’ve put together a few of our favorite recipes to help you set the table with
love. Because if there’s one thing dads always seem to appreciate, it’s a good
meal.
Happy Father’s Day,
Melissa & the Modern Prairie team

Is there part of the recipe missing for the chicken cobbler? It doesn’t tell us what to do with the last page of ingredients after it’s mixed.
My father was the oldest of a set of fraternal twins. The twins were the babies of six children. It was my father they all relied on. We lived near his parents and he and my mother were always available to help them. As long as I can remember we kept grandparents and great grandparents in our home. My dad worked full time for Ford Mo. Co. and later added pastoring to his gifts of love. My father could come across as being hard and gruff but I remember a night he came home from work and I had gotten a terrible sunburn and was running a fever. He stayed up with me all night so that mother could go to bed. Since he worked second shift he knew he could sleep when she got up. I tried missing school because I missed him. My parents placed a roll away bed at the end of our long kitchen so daddy could sleep while I ate breakfast and could see him before school. When I was in the hospital with my fifth child and was having difficulty, he came and stood by my side comforting me and encouraging me until he had to leave. He was loving and generous but had his own way of demonstrating it. I miss him terribly.
My parents divorced when I was three, I never saw my father again cherish your wonderful dad’s I always secretly wanted Pa Ingalls for mine.
My dad is still with us. At 95 (96 in August) he’s only slowing down just a bit now. He was not the best dad growing up but he started mellowing out when the grandkids started coming. I have had several adoptive dads growing up, but I am so glad that my dad lasted the longest.
Happy Fathers day to Tim!
I had a wonderful Dad that left us too soon. I was truly a “Daddy’s Girl”, where he went so did I. His nickname for me was “Peachie Pie” and I miss hearing him call me that so much.
