For Father's Day: Memories, Gratitude, and a Good Meal
A Father’s Day Note from Melissa
Father’s Day reminds me just how many shapes fatherhood can take.
These days, I’m lucky to share life with Tim— watching him with our kids,
grandkids, and even the animals reminds me that being a good man shows up in
the small, steady ways. His patience, generosity and love have no bounds. It is
especially apparent when we are going through a difficult time with one or more
of our kids. He is such an inspiration to me.
And of course, I have to mention Michael Landon. He wasn’t my dad, but he was
my Pa, and he sure helped raise me. His deep appreciation for everyone we
worked with, cast and crew alike, made each one of us feel special and respected.
His love for his children was palpable. The lessons he taught me live within me
today.

Then, there is my father, Paul Gilbert, who is in my heart, soul and everything I do,
every single day. I’ve had some wonderful stepfathers and the best Godfather a
girl could ask for in Charlie Brill.
So, you see, not all fathers look the same. Some show up in unexpected ways.
Some raise us. Some inspire us from afar. Some, we miss a little extra on days like
this.
Whether you're celebrating a father, grandfather, godfather, mentor, or friend—
we'd love for you to share about the beloved father figures in your life in the
comments below.
We’ve put together a few of our favorite recipes to help you set the table with
love. Because if there’s one thing dads always seem to appreciate, it’s a good
meal.
Happy Father’s Day,
Melissa & the Modern Prairie team

I had a wonderful Dad that left us too soon. I was truly a “Daddy’s Girl”, where he went so did I. His nickname for me was “Peachie Pie” and I miss hearing him call me that so much.
My daddy was just the best!
Everyone loved my dad!
I was very fortunate to have a small street of neighbors growing up and all the kids on the street (we are all still in each other’s lives ) shared their dads with all the kids!
I also was blessed with a wonderful father-in-law who was very special in my life for many years .
My father has been gone a long time, but I miss him terribly. He was a father of faith who taught me perseverance and to never give up. I am so thankful for his unconditional love and patience. When I was a kid, all summer I went with him to his roofing jobs and spent the entire summer with my dad. His employees called me “Charlie’s little Princess.” I surely was! I am grateful for the lessons of faith and never quitting by the example he gave daily.
Michael Landon is still playing on my DVD after all these years. It comforts me to know what things should be like in this crazy world of anything goes.
I had one of the greatest dads ever. He passed away last April at the age of 98. I was so fortunate to have him in my life. He was funny, witty and such a good Christian leader. We talked every day and would always end the call with “talk to you later gater, ok Crocodile.
So sorry for the loss of your father.
And that you are dealing with a concussion from falling. I am especially sorry that you lost your baby. Were you pregnant when you lost your baby?
And I am so sorry to hear that you have torn your ACL. It is terrible that you’re dealing with so many serious issues at once. I will Keep you in my prayers. I’m also a stronger person because of my faith, and trust in my heavenly Father.
