For Father's Day: Memories, Gratitude, and a Good Meal

For Father's Day: Memories, Gratitude, and a Good Meal

A Father’s Day Note from Melissa

Father’s Day reminds me just how many shapes fatherhood can take.

These days, I’m lucky to share life with Tim— watching him with our kids,
grandkids, and even the animals reminds me that being a good man shows up in
the small, steady ways. His patience, generosity and love have no bounds. It is
especially apparent when we are going through a difficult time with one or more
of our kids. He is such an inspiration to me.

And of course, I have to mention Michael Landon. He wasn’t my dad, but he was
my Pa, and he sure helped raise me. His deep appreciation for everyone we
worked with, cast and crew alike, made each one of us feel special and respected.
His love for his children was palpable. The lessons he taught me live within me
today.

Then, there is my father, Paul Gilbert, who is in my heart, soul and everything I do,
every single day. I’ve had some wonderful stepfathers and the best Godfather a
girl could ask for in Charlie Brill.

So, you see, not all fathers look the same. Some show up in unexpected ways.
Some raise us. Some inspire us from afar. Some, we miss a little extra on days like
this.

Whether you're celebrating a father, grandfather, godfather, mentor, or friend—
we'd love for you to share about the beloved father figures in your life in the
comments below.

We’ve put together a few of our favorite recipes to help you set the table with
love. Because if there’s one thing dads always seem to appreciate, it’s a good
meal.

Happy Father’s Day,
Melissa & the Modern Prairie team

This is my 3rd Father’s Day without my dad and it’s just been a little rough and harder this year because I recently fell, just getting over a back to back concussion still going through PCL (post concussive syndrome), just lost our baby and found out I have a 3/4 tear in my ACL there are days I can’t get out of bed barely and then there are days where I can do some things but then I just put my head down like 2 days ago I’m in the kitchen and just put my head down on the counter and just cry and my husband just comes and holds me. I wish my dad was here and then I feel him in spirit and I stand up a little straighter and I know I’m a strong German woman of faith and I know I got this as my confirmation verse says “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” Phil. 4:13. My stepfather who taught me a lot, my papa Elmo, my grandpa schautschick, my late husband, my husband who has helped me so much and especially as we have our garden and all our animals we live off the land and barely go to the store for anything. My spiritual father who has helped me so much in my walk with God and to become a better woman of faith and a better mother & wife so I can teach my son to be a man of faith and my daughter to be a woman of faith. My tv dad pa (Michael Landon) I learned so much from him I watched him from as soon as I could turn the tv on myself to now I still currently watch little house on the prairie. It helps me forget the pain I’m in. It helps me in so many ways. Happy Father’s Day to All I mentioned I love y’all so much, Ich liebe dich Vater so sehr!
Ich vermisse dich so sehr!
and also to All the other fathers out there.
