  3. I’m SO happy to have found this site, and cannot Wait to see everything! I’m also 58 now, and really feel like I need to do what makes me happy for the rest of my life. Working as a legal secretary in large firms for 35+ years has worn me out – I am good at it, but I get more joy from being in the garden, being with my 5 rescues, breathing clean air (which I hope to have one day on my own couple of acres outside of the city), doing various crafts that make me happy. I’m so excited about finding this site and believe it will inspire and motivate me to stop doing what I’ve been doing and enjoy life. THank you for starting it and sharing it!!

We’ve got a lot of exciting products, activities and conversations planned for the new year and look forward to having you join us for them. Please check out our YouTube channel as it has recordings of our watercolor courses that you might find interesting. Leana, owner of May We Fly Design (and one of our artisans) has an incredible way of teaching and we were able to create customized place cards and gift tags this year that we know our family and friends will love.

  4. I absolutely love your blog and find the majority of your
post’s to be just what I’m looking for. Would you
offer guest writers to write content for yourself?

I wouldn’t mind creating a post or elaborating on a lot of the subjects
you write regarding here. Again, awesome blog!

  5. Melissa, I recently read your article on aging and how you embrace every day, always learning and giving back to all of us. Thank you. I’m so happy I found “Modern Prairie.” I am 69 years old, retired four years ago after 35 years as an Administrative Assistant. I wanted to touch nature again, in many ways. I found my passion, with being a beekeeper. Learning, researching and meeting wonderful other beekeepers, has brought me so much joy. Each day I learn from the honeybees, about their society within the hive. It totally fascinates me, these little ones from Mother Nature’s heart.
Thank you, I will continue to read and learn from you and all the women on this site.

  6. Hello Modern Prairie,
Im so happy to have found a place where I can connect with other women. I am 48 years old, and I have worked in the dental field for 20+years. I went into dentistry, because I grew up with buck teeth, gingivitis, and bad breath. My parents couldn’t afford to fix my teeth, so I endured constant torment from my peers because of my teeth. I never felt alone though, because Melissa had buck teeth and she was famous! When I was 25 years old, I began the process of fixing my teeth. Doing that inspired me to go into dentistry, so I could in some way, help give people their smiles back, I was 28. Its been 20+ years, and I am starting a new chapter in my life at 48. In a period of 6 months I was fired from 3 dental offices. One told me I didn’t fit in, the other told me I was to nice, and the 3rd one let me work 3 days and made the decision…I didn’t know what I was doing and couldn’t handle the job! 20 years running a dental office and they called me weak! I stopped trying and gave everything over to God. Just recently I was hired to be a bus aid for the special needs kids at Fruitport Community Schools. OMGOSH! I absolutely LOVE it! These kids have so much spirit and they make me laugh everyday! I couldn’t have children of my own, because my body is broken. I tried once to be a school counselor for the kids, but I only got my Associates degree, and then I ended up getting divorced. My money ran out, so I just kept working in the dental field. Then God decided it was time for me to work with the kids! What a wonderful gift these kids are to me. Most of these children have no direction in their lives. No discipline, no one to listen to them. Thats where I come in…Im the first person they see in the morning and the last person they see at night. In just 4 weeks I have made friends with them. When you Love what you do…you Never a work a day in your life. I did Love helping people with their smiles, but being with kids has Always been my true passion. I ignored the call to be with kids and thought I knew more what was better for my life than God did. I was So Wrong, God knew what was better for my life, and now Im back on the path he made for me! I may be 48, but I don’t act like Im 48, and I never will. Im a big kid at heart and I only adult when I have to! I really hope I can make some friends here. Thanks Modern Prairie for making a safe place for aging women, who still act like kids!
