Thank-a-Teacher Giveaway: Little House Nostalgia & Modern Day Heroes

Thank-a-Teacher Giveaway: Little House Nostalgia & Modern Day Heroes

When we think about Little House on the Prairie, it’s easy to picture golden fields, bustling homesteads, and family gathered around the fire. But just as important to Laura’s story—and to so many of ours—were the teachers who helped shape young minds along the way.

Remember Miss Eva Beadle? With her kind heart and steady patience, she was the very first teacher to welcome Laura and Mary into the Walnut Grove schoolhouse. Then there was Eliza Jane Wilder, Almanzo’s sister, who brought a bit more structure and formality (and a few memorable moments of strictness!) to the classroom. And let’s not forget Etta Plum, who continued the tradition of compassion, education, and community connection as the town grew.

And of course, we couldn't forget that Laura was a Walnut Grove teacher, herself!

Each of these teachers brought something special to the prairie—guidance, wisdom, encouragement—and left their mark on a generation.

And it’s no different today.

Teachers shape our futures with every lesson taught, every word of encouragement, every moment they believe in us before we believe in ourselves. This Teacher Appreciation Month, we're taking a moment to honor them—both the ones we grew up watching and the ones who made a real difference in our own lives.

You, who played Laura Ingalls, were the teacher who made a lasting impression on me as a kid! If you could become a teacher, so could I!

Jim Coleman was the kindest and most supportive teacher I ever had. He passed a year ago, and I miss him dearly! He helped me to become the best History teacher I could be. I appreciate all the amazing teachers I’ve had the privilege to work with through the years!

My favorite teacher on LHOTP was Miss. Beadle. She balanced her career passion with her passion for her students.
My favorite teacher now is Becky Simonds. She too is able to inspire learning through not only the mind, but the soul too. ❤️

Miss Keller was favorite teacher and the one who inspired me to become a teacher myself. She taught senior biology and chemistry in high school, and mentored me while in Teacher’s College. I have now been teaching technical math, chemistry and physics for 30 years and love what I do every day teaching adult learners who are preparing for college programs.

My favorite teacher on LHOTP was Miss Beadle for her kindness and quiet strength.
My most favorite teacher in my life was my 5th grade teacher Mr.Morris. He was fair and kind and above all an all around fun teacher who made learning easy! He praised a poor girl from a rural area who was smart but never quite fit in with her peers…the latter of which could be mean…I lost my Father to suicide when I was 5.

My favorite teacher on the show was Miss Beadle.
My Favorite teacher was my Kindergarten and 4th grade teacher Mrs. Rubright. She was patient, kind, helpful and had interesting things for us to do, she made learning fun!
