The Best Tomato Sandwich Recipe

Tomato Sandwiches

  • Fresh country bread, sliced thick
  • Butter (preferably homemade)
  • Mayonnaise (preferably homemade)
  • Thickly sliced ripe tomatoes
  • Salt to taste
  • Freshly ground pepper to taste
  • Granulated sugar

Lightly toast the bread until golden. Slather one slice of bread with butter; slather another slice with mayonnaise. Place the buttered slice butter side up on a plate. Stack with sliced to-matoes. Add salt and pepper to taste. Sprinkle with a pinch of sugar. Close the sandwich with the second slice of bread, mayonnaise side down.

I too love tomato sandwiches. My son grows about 30 heirloom varietevery year. I roast and freeze pasta sauce from them and enjoy luscious tomato sandwiches
