Modern Prairie Gives Back

A Message from Melissa

There's always been room at our table for one more. This September, for Hunger Action Month, we're setting a place for our neighbors: the children, families, and older adults facing hunger, and sometimes loneliness, too. Watch Melissa's message, then scroll down to meet the three organizations we're supporting and find the ways you can help locally.

Set One More Place

We've chosen three organizations whose work, together, tells one story: nourishing our neighbors at every stage of life.

A Single Bite: Supporting Children & Families Locally

In Sullivan County, where our co-founder Melissa Gilbert and Chef Cheryl live, A Single Bite meets childhood hunger with nourishing, scratch-made meals, hands-on food education, and partnerships with local farmers. It's a cause close to our hearts, and this month we're helping share its work with our whole community. Just $10 sets a family meal for three - a simple way to pull up another chair.

Round Up! For the month of September, any purchase at Modern Prairie can be rounded up with all proceeds benefitting A Single Bite.

Meals on Wheels: Caring for Older Neighbors

For many older adults, a warm meal and a friendly knock at the door are the difference between isolation and connection. Meals on Wheels nourishes older neighbors and keeps them company. You can help by delivering a meal or writing a thoughtful note.

Hunger Action Month is Feeding America's national September campaign, and its network of more than 200 food banks means there's a way to help right in your own community.

“As you read my stories of long ago I hope you will remember that things truly worthwhile and that will give you happiness are the same now as they were then.

It is not the things you have that make you happy. It is love and kindness and helping each other and just plain being good.”
