When people ask me about my favorite moments from Little House on the Prairie, I usually smile — because the truth is, there are too many to count. But there’s one episode from Season 1 that’s never left me. I’m not going to tell you which one just yet… but I will say this: it’s a story about finding your voice, navigating new experiences, and discovering where you belong.

It’s about stepping into a place that feels unfamiliar and learning — sometimes the hard way — that kindness, courage, and connection can change everything. It’s full of those little details that made stepping into Laura’s shoes so real for me — from learning how to braid my hair in seconds flat, to figuring out how to lace up my boots with a metal hook, just like women did in the 1800s.

We’ll be gathering soon for a Modern Prairie Behind-the-Episode Exclusive to revisit this special episode together. I’ll be sharing behind-the-scenes memories — some funny, some heartfelt — and talking about what this story has meant to me over the years, and why its themes of community, resilience, and self-discovery still speak so strongly to me (and to what we’re building here at Modern Prairie).
We'll also be dressing up in our Prairie best! If you'd like to go all out with us, bonnets and all, explore our Little House Lover's Collection! Order soon, so you get it on time!
We can’t wait to spend a special evening with you — reliving this beloved story, sharing other treasured moments from the set, and reflecting on why these tales still mean so much today.
I’m so excited to share more in the weeks ahead. For now, I’ll leave you with this question: when you think of Season 1, what moments have stayed with you?
HERE is a link to the event :)
With love,
Melissa 💛

Too many favorites! But (Country Girls) was one of them in season 1
I love this idea so much!! What a wonderful thing to do. I’ll be waiting to hear the details!
This is a great idea! My niece (8 years old) is currently reading the books and is in love with all things Little House! I hope she can join with me to watch the episode!
Oh I sure hope this is during my non-work hours!🤞I have the Little House on the Prairie 6 CD set. Now that we can stream it, I watch it whenever I have a good quiet moment. Season one reminds me of my childhood. I remember how happy I was to sit down on that old braided rug and smile at all the love and family lessons shown by the Ingalls while I watched it with my mostly dysfunctional family. Laura was my age and the Ingalls lived where I wanted to go, literally. I think I actually believed it was a real place in the real world. Loving parents, beautiful country living, simple living. If my family were on the show, we would probably be more related to the Oleson’s. 😉 I also loved watching Laura because I was born a preemie and my Dad always called me Halfpint.
My husband and I just rewatched all of season one, I’m trying to figure out which episode Melissa’s speaking of. I’m excited for the watch party to see which one she chose and to hear all of her stories. LHOP was my favorite show growing up and I hadn’t seen it in years and years. About a month ago, I found the series on Prime Videos and thought it would be fun to rewatch the pilot episode, now we are hooked and my husband and I are having fun rewatching an episode every night. We are only on season two so far, but we look forward to it each night. They really don’t make shows like it anymore! It was so special and a one of a kind!
