Dear Friends,
I’m writing to share something very close to my heart. As many of you know, pancreatic cancer has touched my life in profound ways. Two incredible men who were like family to me, Michael Landon and Patrick Swayze, both lost their battles with this devastating disease. Their passing left a lasting impact on me, and it deepened my commitment to raising awareness and supporting the fight against pancreatic cancer.
Pancreatic cancer is one of the most aggressive and deadliest forms of cancer, with a five-year survival rate of just 13%. It’s a disease that often goes undetected until it’s too late, which is why raising awareness and supporting research is so crucial.
To honor the memories of Michael and Patrick, and to support those who are battling this disease, I’m proud to announce Modern Prairie’s partnership with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN). Together, we’ve curated a special collection of products, each designed with love and purpose. This collection includes women’s and children’s bonnets, a set of three pocket squares, our signature pie carrier, a cozy throw, and a versatile tote bag—all featuring a beautiful purple print, the color representing pancreatic cancer awareness.
By purchasing these items, you’re not only adding something special to your home or wardrobe, but you’re also contributing to a cause that desperately needs our attention. A portion of the proceeds* from each sale will go directly to PanCAN, supporting their vital work in research, patient services, and advocacy.
Thank you for joining me in this important fight. Together, we can make a difference, honor those we’ve lost, and bring hope to those who continue to battle this terrible disease.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Melissa Gilbert
*PanCAN will receive the following amounts from the sale of each item: Scalloped Throw $25, Roll-up Sewing Kit $10, Tote Bag $9, Bonnet $8, Pie Carrier $6, Pocket Squares $5.

Melissa, thank you and Modern Prairie for partnering with Pan-Can. We’ve lost far too many people to this horrific cancer.
My mom past away in 2022 to Pancreatic Cancer. I’ve purchased several items, a pie carrier for each of my siblings. A bonnet for myself.
We won’t stop until we eradicate this disease -Barbara
I am suffering from depression, can you offer help. Sincerely Jessica Klinger
Thank you for supporting PANCAN and bringing awareness during Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month. By sharing information on common signs of pancreatic cancer with others, we may help someone get an earlier diagnosis and better chance at survival.
I lost my Mom 10 years and 2 weeks ago to pancreatic cancer. She fought hard, having the Whipple surgery and then chemo, and a good year after that. One year later it came back and we did 5 weeks of daily radiation and wearing a chemo bag 24/7. That was followed by a clinical trial testing immunotherapy. She actually did that trial 2.5 times, and was the last person in the nation on the trial. I’m proud of her for participating in the clinical trial and helping others.
I purchased the quilt throw and received it on Friday, taking it home and placing it on the bed at my parent’s home
I hope we will see you in April for Purple Stride.
Hi Melissa. You and I did some work together for Children’s Care Coalition many years ago. You may not have known that my husband passed away from pancreatic cancer so it has touched my life and changed it profoundly. I will be honored to purchase some of the items and will also donate directly to panCAN. Thanks for taking on this issue and thanks for your work for the children of California.
Having had Pancreatitis 3 times, I am beginning to understand the physiological side of what this unique organ does and how, as a sufferer it is lifelong. I used to watch Little House as a child and my nickname at school was Laura Ingalls as we looked similar. It seems only fitting that now as a crone I’ve come across your site and will follow it enthusiastically. Beautiful items. Thank you
