We would watch a classic monster movie before we went out. Our parents knew we would not be out long. We gave our bags when we got home and they would go through it after they got a lot of the chocolate bars that were “bad” we put it all in a huge bowl and were allowed a few pieces a day.

Remember the plastic masks when we were kids?! So hot and then they got stinky from the sweat! Ugh. Maybe that is why going forward,I refused to wear masks and found a way to make up my face so I could still breathe! Halloween is my favorite holiday! We light torches and sit in the carport, waiting for the few kids that come into our neighborhood. I try to hand out a treat that all the kids can enjoy- something for babies that won’t choke them, something nut free and no chocolate. It’s getting harder every year. But still fun to sit outside in the cold air, hearing the kids laugh and run down the hill, seeing all their costumes, knowing they like having a spooky little adventure after dark, watching the stars, smelling the smoke from people who are warming the house with a wood fire. We make a big pot of chili! I make a remembrance table of those who have passed and keep candles lit for them all night. Halloween is a way to honor our past and look forward to the future.

I love Halloween!!! I grew up at the foot of the mountains and one year we got 4 feet of snow. I begged my mom to take me out trick or treating. My gramma made me a Raggedy Ann costume. My mom was a trooper and took me out in our old Willy’s jeep. She made me wear my coat over my costume but when I got up to the door I took it off. I was so proud of the costume my gramma made. My mom took me to a few houses to get my candy. My mom was great and still is❤️
